Patricia Ireland
“What Women Want”
Patricia Ireland to Open
Women’s History Month at
Bergen Community College

Patricia Ireland, former president of the National Organization for Women (NOW), will open the month-long Women’s History Month celebration at Bergen Community College on Monday, March 1, 2004. Ms. Ireland will speak at 1:00 p.m. in the Anna Maria Ciccone Theatre on the Paramus, New Jersey campus.

Ms. Ireland will discuss how important it is for women to ask themselves the question, “What do I want?” and go after it with everything they have. She will remind the audience of what strides have been made in the women’s movement, what is currently in peril under the current conservative political climate, and what lies in the future for women.

Viewed as one of the most influential feminist leaders in America, Ms. Ireland used her experience in corporate law to move NOW to the forefront of the political scene and establish herself as a groundbreaking activist as president from 1991 to 2001. With 300,000 members, NOW is widely recognized as a key player in the effort to improve social and economic conditions for women in the United States and around the world.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Bergen Community College proudly presents a series of cultural, musical, dramatic, poetic, and educational events during the month of March. A full calendar of events is available on this Web site at www.bergen.edu/bergen_news/whm_2004.pdf(pdf file) or by calling the Office of Community and Cultural Affairs at (201) 447-7428.
